I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so much so that I pre-ordered the sequel. But alas I am sooo disappointed. I couldn’t even finish it.While the first book was all about Jessie finding her way into a new stage of life this one is just ridiculous. I found myself rolling my eyes and when we got to the second or was it the third alpha showdown I was done. Apparently there is no discussion in magic land oh we’re both in the same building let’s just attack each other. Maybe that’s sexy in someone’s book but not mine. And it’s certainly not good writingWhat I wanted was to see Jessie come into her own magical life, get to know her original crew better learn their stories, see what magic was going to come out of the new relationship with Ivy House. But what I got was stereotypical romance rubbish, no character development and a whiny main character who screams her way through her flying lessons. Not my cup a tea, so I put it down and walked away 50% through. Life is to short for lazy writing. I have been a Queen Breene fan for about three years now when I discovered my first of her books. Since then I have eagerly devoured every book, short story and world she has created. The leveling up series that she started to create a new genre full of awesome older women is no exception and has just been such a joy to read. Magical Midlife Dating allowed us to further descend into Jessie’s crazy new world full of creepy rolling doll heads, butlers who rename themselves ridiculous names, and insanely hot men. I can’t get enough of any of these characters. They are all so real I feels like they are flesh and blood. I have never found another author who can make me laugh out loud as much as the Queen and I will promote her work until I’m blue in the face. Well done, Breene, keep grabbing life by the balls!
